Street Commodores Magazine Cruise for Charity 4
$113,000 Raised for Sick Kids!

In a world where the general populace see modified car owners as nothing more than dangerous ‘hoons’, one annual series of charity events is proving that this gross stereotype doesn’t often ring true.

The annual series of Street Commodores Magazine – Cruise for Charity events recently took place across Australia, breaking all previously held records.

Raising much-needed funds for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, Cruise for Charity 4 reached to almost every state and territory, and to more than 3500 Holden Commodore enthusiasts who helped to raise over $113,000 for charity – not to mention granting wishes to five particular children who needed a little light in their difficult lives.

The Street Commodores Magazine Cruise for Charity is a unique series of car cruises that take place all over Australia each year. These events generate funds through generous vehicle owners and their passengers, who donate a certain amount to participate in the cruise, together with corporate donations gathered in the lead-up to the beginning of the cruises.

Promoting a safe and family-friendly environment, Cruise for Charity is run as a 'Zero Tolerance' event. This means that on-road idiocy is not only frowned upon, but any offending driver will have their photo and rego number handed to police for proper punishment.

According to Street Commodores Editor-In-Chief Ben Hosking, “From the outset, Cruise for Charity has been about three things: giving something back to our community, bringing together the greater Commodore community, and showing to the general public that modified car enthusiasts are not the menace to society they are usually portrayed as”

“As with most things in life, it is the ugly minority that ruin the image of the more responsible, upstanding majority – in this case, the true car enthusiast.”

With an initial aim of raising $80,000 in 2007, the six national cruises raised over $113,000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, who work tirelessly to put a little light into the lives of sick kids all over Australia. Below, you’ll find information on the history of Cruise for Charity, what it achieved in 2007, and information about its nominated charity: Starlight Children’s Foundation.
