Started in 2004 to coincide with the ill-fated innaugural Street Commodores Nationals, Cruise for Charity has grown beyond all conceivable expectations in only a few short years.

Cruise for Charity began in 2004 in a single Sydney event. Some 150 Holden Commodores turned up and helped the event raise $4500 for the nominated charity, the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Word soon spread across the country, and by the same time in 2005, Cruise for Charity 2 had picked up corporate sponsorship and attracted over 400 Commodores from all over the east coast and interstate, raising more than $11,000 for seriously ill and disadvantaged children.

By 2006, the decision had been made to expand the reach of the event by holding satellite cruises in a total of four states throughout Australia in four consecutive weekends. By doing this, the Street Commodores Magazine Cruise for Charity 3 saw over 2000 Commodores turn out and donate more than $57,200. On top of this, the event was able to facilitate the granting of 4 wishes to seriously ill or disadvantaged children.

In 2007, Cruise for Charity expanded once again, this time reaching 6 states and territories including NSW, QLD, VIC, SA, WA and TAS. Hitting these 6 states in 7 weeks, volunteer coordinators put together an amazing series of events that brought together more than 3500 Commodores, their owners and passengers, and helped raise a staggering $112,970 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. On top of this huge amount, children’s wishes were granted in 5 of the 6 states.

Cruise for Charity has helped solidify the modified automotive community, bringing people together from across the country to not only share in their love of the Holden Commodore and modified vehicles, but also give something back to their communities.
